It's akin to one of the best times in Hip Hop, when beats were hard-hitting and lyrics scintillating, the early 90s.     Music and the arts express oneself and are often inspired by a particular moment in their life. The inhibited expression deserves respect; however, this does not automatically render a song good. "Doing Life With Me," by Eric Church, starts off lovely with a slow guitar; there is an expectation that this song will be bold, exciting, and entertaining. As you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, you shouldn't judge a piece by its introduction.

"Doing Life With Me" is dull, flat, and without pathos. The vocalist has a strong presence and an exciting voice, but in the country, we've heard this twang. And it's not enough to hold the lyrics. The lyrics are well written; however, the repetitive strumming does nothing to support them. No modulation, no ups and downs, and no break can push the song forward to its end. Although "Doing Life With Me" may be warm, it falls everywhere: it's not joyful, majestic, defiant, or sophisticated. It's a safe track, merely produced to let out some feelings. In that alone, it rocks.
